American Idol Preview: Andrew Lloyd Webber Night

Tonight, the six remaining finalists on American Idol will tackle Broadway musical numbers!

That's right, it's Andrew Lloyd Webber night on the show. And while that name alone may mean little to many young fans, what about these names?

  • Cats
  • Phantom of the Opera
  • Jesus Christ Superstar
  • Evita

Those are just a few of the musicals Webber has penned the music for - and that you'll hear tonight from David Cook, Syesha Mercado and company on American Idol!

Come back tomorrow for a full review of the show and leave comments at any time with your thoughts.

David Cook Album: Selling Well

Might some consider American Idol finalist David Cook a ringer?

The talented ringer's self-released 2006 album, "Analog Heart,” was the No. 1 downloaded album all weekend on Amazon’s MP3 service. It even beat Mariah Carey’s "E=MC2."

D. Cook

So, do you think this gives Cook an unfair advantage over David Archuleta and the rest of the American Idol contestants?

American Idol Finalists are Hot in Hollywood

Us Weekly hosted its annual Hot Hollywood Bash last week. A pair of former American Idol finalists were in attendance. Check a photo of Michael Johns and Chikezie enjoying the festivities now:

Regarding his style, Johns said: "My wife's given me a lot of tips over the last few years, and I just keep it casual chic. Sometimes I rock it up, but I don't generally go for name brands."

How do you think he looks?

American Idol Look-alike: Jason Castro, Tiny Tim

We're big fans of Jason Castro.

So the following comparison is by no means a slight to this American Idol finalist.

But doesn't he closely resemble the late ukulele-playing pop singer, Tiny Tim?

Kristy Lee Cook and Andrew Dobner: Engaged!

Kristy Lee Cook may have lost a popular singing competition, but she gained a fiance last night.

Okay, it turns out Cook and Andrew Dobner have been engaged since March 17 (but Kristy Lee wanted to keep it quiet in order to focus on American Idol), but after she was eliminated, Cook says Dobner proposed again.

"He actually got down on his knee this time," she said. "He owed it to me!"

Goodbye, World

Congratulations, Kristy Lee Cook, on your engagement to Andrew Dobner.

Ryan Seacrest Smooches Mariah Carey

Following her performance of "Bye Bye" this week, Mariah Carey receives a kiss on the cheek from American Idol host Ryan Seacrest.

Think Simon Cowell was jealous?

Kristy Lee Cook Returns to Her Horses

Kristy Lee Cook won't be on American Idol forever.

After singing the Mariah Carey hit "Forever" on Tuesday night, the contestant who has seemingly lived in the bottom three every week was finally voted off the show.

She was joined in the bottom three by Syesha Mercado and Brooke White, as Cook shed a few tears when her named was announced to close the hour - but she then bucked up and asked: "Can I go ride my horse now?"

Here's a look at the performance that led to Kristy Lee's demise. Check her out singing "Forever" now:

Do you think American made the right choice in voting out Kristy Lee Cook last night?

Inside the American Idol Song Selection Process

We're still in awe of the performance of David Cook from last night.

But perhaps you're wondering how or why he chose to sing "Always Be My Baby." Well, USA Today has published an article that details the song selection process on American Idol. A few excerpts from it:

Each week, Idol's executive producers give contestants a list of songs licensed and approved for the show. The singers get more choices some weeks than others. Past finalists say the lists vary from fewer than two dozen options to a hundred-plus.

"Sometimes it would be four pages, sometimes it could be one page," says Josh Gracin, a Season 2 finalist.

Leather Pants!

David Archuleta - and his leather pants - went with "When You Believe" during Mariah Carey night.

The lists can contain minefields. The catalogs of technically accomplished vocalists— like Mariah Carey, Tuesday night's mentor — present problems. So do songs known to bring criticism from the judges (anything associated with a previous Idol) or ones that have a history of sending people home ("Wanna Dance With Somebody").

"The producers aren't out to get anybody," says Season 6 finalist Phil Stacey, "but they're not going to stop you from making a fool out of yourself."

David Cook: Always Be His Baby

We welcome all opinions on American Idol Worship. But we challenge anyone to disagree with the fact that David Cook put on the best performance of Mariah Carey night. By far.

With his cancer-ridden brother sitting in the front row - and tears welling up in David's eyes following his rendition of "Always Be My Baby - it was a special night for the Cook family. We wish them the best.

Take a look at Cook's performance now and let us know what you thought of it:
