Paula Abdul Speaks on Recent Blunder

Paula Abdul is difficult to read.

On one hand, she sounds quite laid back about the recent American Idol blunder, during which she judged a Jason Castro performance that hadn't happened yet.

“I have fun poking fun at a situation that’s so ridiculous. I’m the queen of taking the seriousness out of [it] … I loved that people laughed, it was funny,” she said. “Honestly, it was a silly thing [that happened on Idol]. We were all confused … I did exactly what the producers told me to do … It’s all good.”

On the other hand, well, let's head what Abdul had to say about living in pain.

“Pain is very daunting — it creates isolation,” said said. “For me, the smile on my face oftentimes is not met with how I feel inside."

What's wrong, Paula?

On the Scene of the Paula Abdul Debacle

After a rushed night of American Idol - during which the contestant each sang two Neil Diamond songs - the performance that stood out the most was that of Paula Abdul.

In mangling her critique of Jason Castro, and actually focusing on a rendition that hadn't taken place on the show yet, Abdul set a new, low standard, even for herself. (Watch the debacle now).

Her Bad!

Anyway, Entertainment Weekly was on the scene last night. On reporter recounted the situation from her eat in the audience:

Ryan invited all the Idol contestants on stage and then had the judges run through their thoughts on the first half of the show. (Stage manager Debbie Williams had to step on stage herself to motion the Idols to come out to the stage, as if, perhaps, this half-way check-in wasn't entirely planned.)... then, with executive producer Nigel Lythgoe and Debbie watching from the wings, it was Paula's turn.

Paula Abdul Gives Back

We mock Paula Abdul a lot on this site because, well, have you ever heard her American Idol critiques/rants?

But we have nothing but praise for the occasionally wacky judge for her - and many others' - actions as part of the Idol Gives Back special.

Here's a shot of Abdul hugging a child from tomorrow night's broadcast. Please remember to tune in, call in and help out with a donation:

Randy Jackson to Assist Paula Abdul with Album

We interrupt updates on Danny Noriega and other season seven contestants to discuss a pair of our favorite judges...

A week after Paula Abdul's lip-synch-tastic Super Bowl performance, we're found out that her American Idol co-judge Randy Jackson has confirmed that he will have a hand in producing her forthcoming full-length album.

"We've been talking about it," Jackson told Entertainment Weekly. "We gotta keep things rolling, you know?"

No release date or label has been announced yet, but last week Paula Abdul's official website posted a message saying to expect an album in the summer of 2008.

A Paula Abdul Picture

With Tom Petty set to star in the halftime show, it's unclear just when Abdul would sing. But her latest project gives us an inkling of just what she'd be doing at the game:

The crazy American Idol judge is already in rehearsals for a music video duet between her and Randy Jackson, which will also be the first single off of Jackson's upcoming guest-heavy album, Music Club Vol. 1. Abdul would likely use this as the basis for her performance.

What do you think? Do you wanna see Paula at the big game?

Paula Abdul Dishes on American Idol Auditions

Last week, Paula Abdul opened up about Simon Cowell and his new nickname for his traveling buddies as the group embarks on the latest round of American Idol auditions.

“He [now] calls Randy and I ‘Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.’ I’m Dee, Randy’s the Dum!” Abdul told People.

Paula and Randy She says Cowell came up with the unflattering name during the audition process for the show’s upcoming season, which recently wrapped up.

“What’s happening is Randy and I have been agreeing on the talent as he disagrees,” says Abdul. “He thinks we don’t know what we’re talking about, and the truth is Randy and I do know what we’re talking about. It’s Randy and Paula against Simon. I’m on the winning side!”

Overall, of course, Abdul confirms that she and Cowell are getting along.

“In the past couple of cities we’ve had no arguments. He’s still pestering me like hell, but we get along pretty well.”

What's Randy Jackson's take on his insulting sidekick? He sums up Cowell’s attitude by saying: “He’s cranky.”

But the bright side is that the audition process has been “really, really good, I must say,” Jackson admits. “You still get the crazy buffoonery going on, but for the most it’s been pretty good. I would say somebody with skin and teeth is definitely going to win!”

We can't wait to see who that is.

Britney Spears Lays into American Idol Judges

Simon on Britney Remember a few weeks ago when the American Idol judges said they'd love to help Britney Spears?

We thought it was a kind gesture. But apparently Britney did not.

According to Star Magazine, the absolute train wreck responded to such reports by saying: "What a joke!  They help me? I invented what they do!"

Spears then vowed never to work with any of the judges again, ripping each one, by saying:

  • Paula Abdul is a "has-been freak."
  • Simon Cowell is a "creepy Eurotrash guy who's mean and dated."
  • Randy Jackson is a "lame, cookie-cutter producer."

We can't say for sure whether Britney uttered these words or not - but would you put anything past her at this point?

Paula Abdul Dishes on Love and Life

Hey, Paula Abdul Recently, USA Today caught up with Paula Abdul.

The American Idol judge talked about numerous aspects of her life, including this exciting piece of news: she wants to have a child.

"That's the next step in my life," said Abdul, back in Los Angeles in between Idol auditions that have taken her to Philadelphia, Miami, San Diego, Charleston, S.C., Atlanta and Omaha. "Definitely within the next two years. I thought by now I'd have three grown children."

Forget Angelina Jolie and adopting from a foreign country, though. Paula said she'd be willing to explore fertility options.

"With modern medicine, people are having kids in their 40s and even up until their late 40s," she said. "In their 50s, they're having their second child. If it doesn't happen naturally like that, I would always consider adopting."

Of course. Abdul's life has already been enriched by her boyfriend of more than five months, J.T. Torregiani.

"He's a sweetie pie," she said, looking at him across the lobby of the Renaissance Hotel. "He's a positive force that has come into my life right now. Where it leads, who knows? Like Simon Cowell says, 'He's a great, normal guy — why does he like you?' "
