Jordin Sparks: Your Prom Cover Girl

We didn't know there was a magazine called Your Prom, either.

But there is. And Jordin Sparks is its latest cover girl. Here are highlights of the interview with last year's American Idol:

On her wardrobe secret: “I always wear spandex shorts under any dress because there could be a breeze. I could sit the wrong way. It’s a safety issue.”

Her Prom

On her fashion weakness: “I have a ton of shoes. I have a pair of Adidas that I just bought. They’re really, really cool. They go with everything!”

On her fave dance music: “I love stuff with really driving beats. I love Justin Timberlake’s songs, [and] Kanye West is good to dance to.”

Jordin Sparks Versus Blake Lewis

As we get set to start the path toward a new American Idol in two weeks, let's look back at last year's two finalists.

How have Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis fared on the charts?

Jordin Sparks
Album sales: Her eponymous debut disc has sold 283,000 copies since Nov. 20, after starting with the lowest sales by far for an Idol winner.
Track downloads: 1 million (567,000 for the single Tattoo).
Radio airplay: Tattoo is No. 14 on the national all-format airplay chart, No. 8 in the top 40 format.
Creative control: Jordan co-wrote one song on her album, par for the course for Idols, whose strong point is usually singing, not writing or producing.
Promotional activities: Set to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

Friends and Foes

Blake Lewis
Album sales: Audio Day Dream has sold 156,000 copies since Dec. 4, a middling pace for an Idol runner-up.
Track downloads: 505,000 (34,000 for single Break Anotha).
Radio airplay: Break Anotha hasn't hit the national chart but is close to entering the top 40 format chart.
Creative control: Blake co-wrote all but one of the songs on his album, an unprecedented degree of involvement for an American Idol.

Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks to Sing on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve will be chock full of American Idol stars.

As previously reported, Carrie Underwood will ring in 2008 as part of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.

Now, FOX has announced today that Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks will join the band Lifehouse to perform on the network's New Year's Eve Live special.

New Year's Eve Live will be hosted by So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley, along with Spike Feresten from Talk Show with Spike Feresten.

Jordin Sparks CD Sales Continue to Disappoint

More bad news for Jordin Sparks:

Her self-titled album dropped 57% in its second week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It fell from number-10 to number-18 on the Billboard chart.

Given that holiday season tends to soften a lot of second-week sales declines - and that Jordin didn't sell all that much in her first week - this is far from encouraging. The American Idol champ sold 52,000 copies; her two-week total is 171,000.

Jordin Sparks Album Sales: A Disappointment

It's early - and the figures are unofficial - but it appears as though initial sales of the debut Jordin Sparks album are a disappointment.

The CD is on pace to finish in ninth place on the charts with only around 100,000 copies sold. If valid, this is a devastating - and surprising - blow to Sparks burgeoning career. Last year, Taylor Hicks' debut sold almost 300,000 copies in its first week.

For now, it looks like Sparks couldn't even pull ahead of former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride, which has been on the charts for over a month.

Then again, it's early. And we refuse to give up on such a talented singer as Jordin.

Jordin Sparks Talk About on New Album, Success

Here's an excerpt from an interview Jordin Sparks recently gave to BuddyTV. She speaks about her album and rise to stardom in it...

Jordin Sparks PictureEver since American Idol ended it's kind of been a whirlwind. You had the tour and then recording. How much influence did you get in the song writing process and picking and choosing your songs of what was going to be on the album?
Actually I feel very lucky because I got a lot more say than I thought I was going to get n the album. And I had an opportunity to write, which they said that usually don't get a chance to write on the first album. So I feel very lucky with that to.

So I came out here after the tour; I came out here for about a week and I got to write some songs and record some songs. One of the songs on the album is called “Freeze” and I co-wrote that with Amanda Ghost who wrote “Tattoo.” And it's basically about freezing the moment and just soaking up all the details and trying to remember everything. And there's no part more to my life than right now because I can't believe it's almost been a year already and I can't remember what I've done, like half of what I've done. So, it's been pretty crazy.

And there are two songs that are being used for bonus, one of them I wrote and the other one I co-wrote. So I'm very excited about that. And it terms of the songs, I have a lot of say of the songs that are on my album because I had to like them and they had to be me, so.

The songs, basically they would play them for me and I'd be like: ‘Yeah, I really like that. Let's do that one,' or ‘No I don't like that.' And if they liked a song that I didn't like, I'd be like: ‘Okay, well tell me why you liked this,' and they they'd ask me why I didn't like it and we would kind of compromise.

What usually happened was I would put my voice on it, and if it would grow on me then we'd be like: ‘Okay. I can totally see that. I can totally see why you like it.' If it didn't, then we kind of tossed it.

Jordin Sparks: Still a Proud Virgin

Legs Closed Yes, Jordin Sparks is still a virgin.

But it's not easy.

“Temptation is always there," the American Idol winner told Us Weekly. "It's hard everyday, but I made a promise to myself."

Since she was 13, the singer has worn a platinum "promise ring" — bearing the inscription “True Love Waits” — that her parents gave her, and she plans to keep it on.

"I wasn't ever forced into [wearing the ring]," she said. "It’s all about making the right choice and not putting yourself in that situation."

Still, the single singer — whose debut disc comes out on November 20 — says she wouldn't mind a mate, like Carrie Underwood appears to have now with Chace Crawford.

"They have to make me laugh because I love to laugh," she said, describing her dream guy. "They have to have nice teeth. They could be athletic and sing ... and play and instrument.
