Jennifer Hudson Takes Home BET Awards

Dreamgirls stars Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson led the way at Tuesday's Black Entertainment Television Awards in Los Angeles.

People magazine reported that Hudson kicked off the three-hour ceremony with a duet of "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" with Jennifer Holliday, who made the song famous on Broadway almost three decades ago.

Another Award for Hudson

The Oscar winner snagged the best actress trophy ("I can't believe I'm still winning awards!" she said) and best new artist award.

Knowles, who led the nominees with six nods, picked up awards for best female R&B artist and video of the year for "Irreplaceable."

She also performed a show-stopping rendition of her dance anthem "Get Me Bodied" – followed by her Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland singing "Like This" with cameos from Eve, Michelle Williams and Beyoncé's sister Solange Knowles.

Later in the evening Diana Ross was given the lifetime achievement award, and urged younger performers to "keep it classy." Introduced by Alicia Keys and Ross's five children, the former Supreme was feted with a multi-song tribute that kicked off with Erykah Badu's cover of "Love Hangover."

Jennifer Hudson: A Straight Debate

Let's forget about the hair of Sanjaya Malakar for a moment.

And let's not worry about comparing the different looks of Katharine McPhee right now.

Instead, we'd like to focus on Jennifer Hudson. The Oscar winner may have dissed American Idol a few times recently, but we can still have an opinion on her hair.

Celebrities Offer Jennifer Hudson Advice on her Career

Jennifer Hudson won an Academy Award last month.

So it's not like her career is in trouble.

Hudson and her Oscar But the former American Idol contestant has made a few comments recently that have soiled her reputation a bit. Not to worry, though, Jennifer. Check out the advice some celebrities are offering for your future:

“Jennifer has to follow her intuition … I’d look for something next that’s just fun. Do a silly comedy if it’s in your gut.” - Kirsten Dunst

“I’d suggest Jennifer do a straight drama or comedy … musicals are a limited genre and you can’t really make a career out of that.” - John Travolta

“I would do some drama if I were her. That’s what I was really impressed by in Dreamgirls. I knew she was a great singer.” - Randy Jackson

That all makes sense. As for the future of Sanjaya Malakar? That may be harder to predict.

Jennifer Hudson Continues to Diss American Idol

Jennifer Hudson is a great singer.

But she isn't the most thankful - or well spoken - person in the world.

While Simon Cowell believes Hudson should give props to her American Idol experience as she garners more and more attentions and awards, the star seems to have other ideas.

Hudson Celebrates Hudson recently responded to Cowell's critique with a fairly non-sensical bit of logic: "If I'd been any better at my job when I was at Burger King in my middle teens I wouldn't be here either, so should I thank them too?"

We have a couple of response to Jennifer's attempt at making a point:

  1. Sure, why not thank everyone that helped you along the way?
  2. Are you really comparing a fast food job that has nothing to do with singing to the competition that was watched by millions and is the only reason anyone knew your name enough to consider you for Dreamgirls in the first place?

We're nout doubting the talent of Hudson - but countless performers have talent. But how many get noticed on a platform such as American Idol?

Meanwhile, the awards have continued to pile up for the singer. Hudson won entertainer of the year at the 21st Soul Train Music Awards - and seemed to mock Idol a bit during her speech:

"I just can't believe I got the Sammy Davis Jr. award! I'm standing on the same stage where I made the top 32 of American Idol."

Get off your bitter high horse, Jennifer.

With this in mind, the company chose Hudson to be its representative and endorser.

Liz Smith, executive vice president of Avon said in a statement:

"We believe that our Avon representatives and their customers will be truly inspired by Jennifer's dream-come-true success story."

American Idol Picture of the Day: Jennifer Hudson ... and a Future Friend?

She may have recently insulted American Idol a bit, but Jennifer Hudson still makes fans of the show proud.

Therefore, we're glad to bring you this picture of the singer/actress in front of a rather large statue. Not just any statue, of course. It's an Academy Award.

And a smaller version of this gold fella may be Hudson's to take home in a few weeks ...

Jennifer Hudson Calls American Idol Abusive, Beyonce Her Friend

Jennifer Hudson has won Golden Globe and SAG awards - and is up for an Oscar - for her role in Dreamgirls. However, the success arrives despite what she describes as an abusive experience on American Idol.

Hudson "On American Idol, you go through this mental thing; you've got to get yourself back together. You've been abused, misled and brainwashed to believe whatever they want you to think," Hudson, 25, tells the new issue of Essence.

"You become a character – I became the girl in the turkey wrapping." (On one episode, she wore an unflattering outfit that earned that label.) "I just knew I had to sing my way out of it. I don't believe in looking back, and I didn't look back."

Hudson also dismisses rumors that there was tension on the Dreamgirls set between herself and costar Beyoncé Knowles. "We clicked from day one," she says.

She says she, Knowles and their fellow Dreamgirl Anika Noni Rose bonded over the fact that they're all Virgos, and all have a mole in the same spot on the left side of their necks.

"It's amazing to me that God took three different women from three different walks of life and created the Dreamgirls," Hudson says. "We were meant to be together. When you look at us, you see it's all connected. I'm loving Beyoncé."
