Constantine to Co-Host MTV Show, Perform Special L.A. Concert

Tonight marks the beginning of the stage career for Constantine Maroulis, we he debuts in the Broadway music, The Wedding Singer. We wish him very ounce of luck.

A Focused Constantine

Fans who wish to follow Constantine, however, will also able to find him on the TV screen in a few months. He'll serve as a guest host on MTV's "The Little Talent Show," premiering September 18 at 6pm PDT/EDT.

But, wait, there's more from Kellie Pickler's ex-boyfriend!

For one night only, Constantine will be back in L.A. The show will be held at The Viper Room and feature his own songs, as well as songs written by Angie Aparo, Jeff Buckley and Willie Nile, one of Bono's favorite writers.

Of Maroulis performs as he did al summer on a tour of the Northwest, fans are in for a treat. The Allentown Morning Call had the following to say about these concerts:

" [American Idol] Season 4 finalist Constantine Maroulis showed he not only has a rich Broadway-style tenor voice that can go seamlessly from belt to croon but he's got the whole package."

Constantine Maroulis Joins Theater Production

Maroulis Branching OutConstantine Maroulis, a finalist on the fourth season of American Idol in 2005, is breaking into theater. The 30-year-old will join the cast of The Wedding Singer in early September in the role of Sammy, the not-so-bright bandmate of the title character. Maroulis has signed on for an eight-week run in the show, replacing Matthew Saldivar.

While attending the Boston Conservatory of Music and Berklee College of Music, Maroulis appeared onstage in shows such as Hedwig and the Angry Inch and Jesus Christ Superstar. In 2002, he apprenticed at the Williamstown Theater Festival, where he appeared alongside Ron Leibman and Diane Venora in Donald Margulies' God of Vengeance.

For most of the next year, he toured North America and Asia as Roger in Rent and began his own rock band, Pray for the Soul of Betty. Among the highlights of Maroulis's stint on American Idol was his rendition of "My Funny Valentine" during the show's Broadway theme week. Although he was voted off (Carrie Underwood eventually won), he became one of the show's most popular finalists.

Last summer, Maroulis toured North America with the other Idol finalists and performed his version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" on The Tonight Show in support of his inclusion on Hollywood Records' Killer Queen tribute CD. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native is currently at work on his solo debut album, with an EP planned for early fall, and a full length release set for 2007.

Audition Advice... From Those Who Know Best

With auditions for a new season of American Idol practically underway, it's time for a little sage advice -- from some of the select few who have actually survived the early rounds and gone on to make a name for themselves in Hollywood.

Carrie Underwood

"Be yourself and pick songs that make you stand out," advises Carrie Underwood (right).

"Be yourself and sing like it's your last time singing," Fantasia Barrino urges.

"Be you," suggests Paris Bennett. "And no theater songs. Boring."

Be realistic about your talent, recommends Katharine McPhee: "Don't sing Etta James' 'At Last.'"

And for those taking part in the nationwide Season 6 contestant search, which begins today in Southern California, here's a practical tip from Bucky Covington:

"Plan to go to two cities. A lot of good people get cut in the first round," he says.

A key step is, obviously, not to fake it. Know thyself, as Plato told us, and then be thyself, as Underwood et al. instruct.

In song terms, think "I've Got to Be Me" -- but don't actually sing the Broadway tune made famous by Sammy Davis Jr. Theater songs are boring, remember?

That's all well and good, but there must be more to making it with American Idol. There is a need for something more, said Season 4 finalist Constantine Maroulis, who took a break from his current tour to speak with Forbes.

Maroulis, Picker No Longer An Item

Constantine Maroulis and Kellie PicklerIt was a match made in American Idol heaven. Or something.

But no matter, because apparently it's over. We are talking about the cute item of failed Idol hopefuls Constantine Maroulis and Kellie Pickler, who reportedly dated for awhile before the cute North Carolina native stopped returning the long-haired rocker's calls.

"We were hanging out and talking all the time and I haven't spoken to her in a while, so I'm not really sure what that's all about," Maroulis said. "I don't know if it's her being too busy or thinking that she's a big star now or something. I'm not really sure what the whole situation is."

Maroulis is not sure exactly what went wrong, but he is fairly sure that the spotlight played at least some role.

"It became a thing where everyone was asking her, 'What's going on with Constantine?' Kellie probably thought, 'I just came off a big show. Ask me about me, not just about Constantine.'"

Maroulis, who kicks off a solo tour in Richmond, Va., on August 1, and who'll be a "singing judge" on the new MTV reality series The Little Talent Show this fall, says he has no hard feelings.

"I wish her the best, man. I think she's a sweetheart."

Pickler, whose rep didn't return calls, hits the road TODAY with Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks and the rest of her Season Five cohorts in their cross-country tour.

Constantine, A-Fed and Jon Peter Lewis Get to Work on Albums, Singles

Forget news about Taylor Hicks and other American Idol winner - what about the also-rans?!? Don't worry, we have information on impending music from a trio of close finishers.
Constantine Rocks OutFirst off, rocker Constantine Maroulis has begun recording his debut solo album. He describes it as rock and roll, but not like his former band, Pray for the Soul of Betty.

"It's a bit more commercial, a bit more pop. I'm a little older now, and it's got a mature sound, a bit of a Rob Thomas/ Santana thing. It's got some great Bon Jovi elements, a little Ricky Martin in there. And I'm writing a lot of it too," said the fourth-season finalist.

Bon Jovi elements? That's mighty high praise for himself. Meanwhile, Anthony Fedorov is also recording; A-Fed's album will have a different feel than Constantine's, however.A-Fed in the House!

"It's gonna be Richard Marx meets Marc Anthony," Federov said of his first effort. "It's gonna be ballad-heavy, very powerful and strong."

Finally, third-season finalist Jon Peter Lewis has released his debut single, "If I Go Away." He's even preparing to go on tour with the number.

"I'm working with some other great musicians right now," Lewis said. "I have a drummer who's done some work for Josh Groban and Vertical Horizon, and our piano player plays for Gnarls Barkley."
