Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Kelly Clarkson Nominated for Country Music Awards

CMA WinnerAmerican Idol is more than just a little bit country.

Three past finalists were nominated for Country Music Awards last week, with Carrie Underwood leading the way.

The season four champion was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, as well as Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year for "Before He Cheats." Moreover, "Before He Cheats" is up for Song of the Year.

This is the second year in a row Underwood has received multiple CMA nominations. Last year, "Jesus Take the Wheel" was nominated for Music Video of the Year and Single of the Year, but failed to win either award. This talent did take home Female Vocalist of the Year honors as well as the Horizon Award, given to up-and-coming country stars.

Kellie Pickler, meanwhile, will have a chance to be the second former Idol finalist in a row to win the Horizon Award, as the fifth-season fifth-place finisher was nominated for it this year.

Lastly, Kely Clarkson was also nominated for a 2007 CMA. Her duet of "Because of You" with friend Reba McIntyre was nominated for Musical Event of the Year.

Carrie Underwood Joins Motley Crue

Fan of the Crue The crowd at Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon got an extra special treat last Friday when American Idol victor Carrie Underwood got down with Motley Crue singer Vince Neil.

Turns out this country star is a huge fan of 80's rock band. When she went with some friends to the show, she just couldn't help herself and jumped on stage in time to sing "Kick Start My Heart" with group's lead singer.

However, this model artist was only willing to transform herself so much.

"The lines in the song he had her sing have some cuss words," Carr'e rep said. "[But] she wouldn’t say them!"

Awww, that's adorable.

A Carrie Underwood Note: So Small is Record-Setting Single

The new single from Carrie Underwood, So Small - the lead track from her second album (due Oct. 23) - makes its debut on the Radio & Records/Billboard country chart at No. 20.

That's the highest debut position for a solo country female singer in Nielsen BDS history... as well as the highest debut for any song this year.

Canadians Come Out to Cheer on Carrie Underwood

The following is a review of a recent Carrie Underwood concert in Canada, courtesy of The Edmonton Journal...

The longer Carrie Underwood performed, the younger the crowd got at the Big Valley mainstage Saturday night.

Carrie in Canada No one since Shania Twain has perfected the country crossover as well as the 2005 American Idol winner, who drew scores of teenagers to the Jamboree grounds.

But her country-pop style didn't do it for everyone - Underwood's success has largely come thanks to the strength of her pipes, which let her sing just about any genre well, be it country, rock, pop or even gospel.

And while her vocals were impressive, older traditionalists who prefer pure honky tonk dispersed soon after getting what they wanted from cowboy crooner George Canyon, who finished playing his set half an hour earlier.

Still, the concert bowl remained packed for Underwood, who put on a good show but was still very much an American Idol, wanting to please everyone by being everything. The show became a rock concert halfway through her set, with Underwood stamping her feet to a cover of Guns n' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine.

Peculiar.

No matter, though: from there, Underwood segued into the song everyone was waiting for: her hit single Before He Cheats. When she finally performed the girl-power anthem, thousands of fans sang along.
But the minute the song ended, even more concert-goers filed out, not bothering to see what would come next. It was only a little bit past 10 p.m. - still very early here on Jamboree Time.

It's not that Underwood isn't talented.

The music was all there, but when the guitars quieted down between songs, fans got little of Underwood, the sweet girl next door they met on TV.

She said little and when she did, it was barely audible. Her smiles were rare and she looked more like a diva than someone having a good time.

Diehard Underwood fans didn't care - it was enough just to see their idol. But for those who don't care for reality television, it was hard to find reason to stay.

Underwood just wanted to get offstage. They just wanted to warm up back in their campers and put on some Johnny Cash.

Carrie Underwood Aldum Sales: More Than a Breakaway

Some Hearts ArtistIt's official:

Some Hearts from Carrie Underwood has finally passed Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway to become the best-selling Idol album of all-time. The margin was razor-thin, according to Nielsen SoundScan: 5,813,400 for Carrie, 5,813,200 for Kelly.

Clarkson's current album, My December, is still the top-selling Idol album of the week, dropping from No. 11 to No. 15 on the Billboard chart. It sold 31,000, down from 42,000 the previous week, a 27% drop. It's sold 536,000 total.

Daughtry drops 22-25 on the chart, selling 23,000, an 8% drop; his total is 2.96 million. Carrie moves from number-30 to number-28 on the chart, selling 21,000, off 1% from the previous week.

Meanwhile, Elliott Yamin moves 81-84 with flat sales of about 9,000 and a total of 333,000; Bucky Covington slides 83-91, selling a bit more than 8,000, down 5%, with a total of 231,000.

Kellie Pickler has a nice week, climbing 141-99 on a 42% sales increase to more than 7,000. Her total's 593,000. And Fantasia drops 125-179, selling 4,000, a 31% drop. Total: 447,000.
