Past Contestants React to Joanna Pacitti Disqualification
Earlier this week, Joanna Pacitti was disqualified from the round of 36 on American Idol.
The show cited the singer's connections to executives at the record label associated it. Was the decision to cut Pacitti a fair one?
Here's what a few past finalists have to say about it:
Season 2 champion Ruben Studdard: "This opportunity wasn't for her. Maybe God has something else for her."
Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini: "I believe in second chances. I don't think I'd be here without a second chance, and probably a third or fourth chance. Everyone needs to be held up to the same standards on American Idol... Unfortunately, she was disqualified from the show, but I think the exposure is going to be huge for her."
Season 6's Chris Sligh: "I think a lot of contestants don't actually read the contracts that they give you. I actually read every word of it so I knew that I couldn't have a record deal, which I didn't have, I couldn't have a publishing deal...So if you're dumb enough to be that dumb, then oh well."
Season 7's Michael Johns: "One thing you cannot do is know people who work for Coke or Fox or 19 [Production Company] or anything like that. That's why I could never go on Wheel of Fortune: me and Pat Sajak go way back. It's never good to hear that she never got a chance."
Do you think the Joanna Pacitti disqualification was fair?

It's totally fair. Not to mention her existing connections in the industry, she totally forgot her lyrics three times in a row. Plus, her voice just isn't that great. For her to be advanced to the next round, it was totally biased and unfair to others. I'll say Tatiana has much better voice than Pacittie and she never once forgot her lyrics. I don't have a problem with Tatiana advancing to the next round, but I definitely was upset when Joanna got to the next round.

I totally agree with the disqualification. She wasnt just another hopeful waiting for this one moment to show what she could do if given the chance.I believe it was a serious bias due to whoever she was connected to that got her this far!Ya know,..American Idol just isnt the same anymore. It used to be about people who werent preformers YET. I can even remember when one preformer was removed because he had been a working singer before he had come on AI.
Now,it's for anyone who can stand in line long enough. Yes,I know they have to be good, but anymore,..they have to be REALLY REALLY good.I've seen many people who sounded incredibly good get kicked off right at first, not even getting past the audition. A lot of those people who get onstage are people who have been doing it some time now,one or two even have a CD out. This I first found out watching E!. I have since heard it elsewhere. I watched the show to see how hard the contestants would work for it,and if some are even semi pros it isnt fair to those who arent. In my humble opinion.I soooo wish that American Idol would go back to only allowing only new untried talent on the show.Like it started out being, instead of semi pros that just arent well known yet.Sigh,....
It still IS a good show. It's just not what is says it is. NEW untried talented kids,..since anyone over a certain age isnt welcome at all..,trying to make it in the business.I also find THAT sad.As if you are older than say,..25,you cant sing?Jesus, isnt that just prejudiced?((Talent doesnt have a thing to do with age,and neither does dreaming.))Please dont be too upset at me for my post,I really dont mean to offend anyone here at all. Honest,I am just kinda bummed about having to watch all the 'not so new to the business'newbies. They try to pass quasi established talent as new talent, and if they hid the press about them,it might work, but it gets out anyway. Its a bit like a variety show these days, instead of what it was originally.Anyway,..I was just venting a tiny bit.)
Take care,
Shiloh

not fair at all. they knew of her status when she first auditioned and they still let her through only to disqualify her.... should have never let her through. since they decided to, they should have let her compete.

It's the judges fault.

For the person above who said just venting. Seems to me you have a bigger problem then american idol contestant Joanna LOl maybe you tryed out or want to? or someone close to you did and didnt make it. foolish. the top 36 this year know people in the industry, and maybe even people that work for the judges?? do some homework. Of the top 36 12 had pre record deals and have worked for some biggies in the industry, Joanna will be just fine trust me . Very very talented. people should be more concerned and VENTING about the shape of our worl today Its BAD soldiers dyeing??? go vent to your countrys leadersand people who left poor Obama with such a mess
