Syesha Mercado: The Elimination Interview

SyeshaSyesha Mercado sat down with Entertainment Weekly after she was voted out of American Idol last night. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Syesha, the whole country seemed to know it was going to be a David vs. David finale. How was it being on stage when you knew your fate?

Well, I didn't read that press. I didn't get that memo. I've been in a little bubble for a while. I heard rumors that it was going to be a David-Syesha finale.

Which David?

David Cook. I was thinking it was going to be a miraculous change in voting, that little girls stopped voting for David Archuleta and a cloud of votes came in for me. But I had a feeling I was going home, especially after the bad commentary I got for two of the songs I did. At this point in the game there couldn't be any harsh comments. I'm at peace with everything I've done, though. I learned a lot.

Are you going to pursue acting or singing now?

I want to do everything. I want to make an album, do Broadway, act in films, open restaurants, homeless shelters, Lupus foundations. I want to do so many things. I'm really goal-oriented, and if you're driven and focused it will happen for you.

Simon Cowell: David Archuleta is a Bore!

Thank you, Simon Cowell!

We've been saying for weeks that David Archuleta may have a great voice, but he has the personality of a desk chair. The guy puts on the same, strained performance week after week.

Cowell, meanwhile, made his similar opinion known during a recent interview with Blender. When told that his interviewer bears a resemblance to Archuleta, Cowell replied:

"I would think you have a bit more personality than he does."

Simon Kicks Back

As for his pick to win this season's American Idol crown, Simon also took the side we've been supporting all season:

"Probably David Cook," he said. "I think he's done more to deserve it over the eleven weeks. He's taken more risks, he's done things with certain songs that have been more interesting. If I'm gonna base it on who has done the best performances over the live shows, David Cook deserves to win."

The American Idol Semifinal Summary

During a night where the final three contestant sung three songs - one they chose, one the judges chose and one the producers chose - David Cook was most impressive.

Paula Abdul said she'd see him in the finals and Simon Cowell declared Cook the evening's winner. Here's a look at our favorite finalist singing "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face."

Jason Castro: The Elimination Interview

Soon after being voted off American Idol, Jason Castro spoke with Entertainment Weekly. Here are highlights from the interview:

So, set the record straight. You weren't sabotaging yourself? You didn't want to go home?
I did not want to go home. But at the same time, now that it happened, I'm kind of glad. It all worked out like it was supposed to. I was reaching the point where I couldn't do it anymore. I wasn't able to keep up and it all caught up with me.

Saying Bye Bye

Let's talk about Tuesday night. When Simon said no one should ever cover ''I Shot the Sheriff,'' did you think of reminding him that Eric Clapton did a great cover of the song?
You know, sometimes he says things that are obviously wrong. But no, I wouldn't have said that to him. My mom taught me never to make a person look wrong. I am just respectful. It's my place to sing a song and his place to judge.
