Fantasia Barrino Performs Bore Me, Frightens Simon Cowell
We'll have plenty to say about the impending showdown between David Cook and David Archuleta in the days leading up to next week's final.
For now, though, let's go back to last night - and the performance of Fantasia Barrino on the show. Wow!
The former American Idol champion scared the heck out of Simon Cowell by sporting red hair as she sang the song "Bore Me." Check out the rendition NOW.
What did you think of Fantasia's performance, as well as her new look?

I thought she looked horrible and I could not stand all of that screaming. I rarely comment on any of these things but thought that all she did was scream and screech!!

One thing you have to say about Fantasia---she's got balls. She does what she wants because SHE wants to. I admire that in her. There is rarely middle ground---you love or hate what she is doing, but you will definitely FEEL something. That's how she became the American Idol. Her passion and talent won America over.
Having said that, I'm guessing she does not have much of a PR person or Fantasia completely overrides them at every turn. The Woody Woodpecker hair do was not flattering. The song choice was highly energetic but mostly unintelligible (even after looking at the lyrics, it is still hard to understand what she is singing/screaming.) All in all, it is the most energy that AI stage has had in a long while and is short circuited Simon's brain.
I still think she's awesome. You cannot turn away from Fantasia. Her perfomance of "Bore Me" was anything BUT boring.

well i don't like the hair and the performance she was terrible and even her voice to.should she start with***(when i see you)***that will be good if she did that.who agree with me?

SHE SUCKS!!!!!!!!
May 15th, 2008 6:27 PM
I think she was wonderful she is a strong individial and she has fought to get were she is at. To those who didnt like it and thought she just screamed alot you must have never heard other black stars such as patty labell shaka kaun but what do i know these ladies have awards and money and you who didnt like it have bad taste
May 15th, 2008 6:31 PM
Her voice sucked and so did her performance. I'm not a big fan of screaming and looking at her with that ugly red doo was enough to make anyone sick.

I totally loved Fantasia last night, too! Her natural and exuberant energy, her performing talent, her originality and stage presence. She was awesome crazy FUN!!! She made the show worth watching. Otherwise, it would have been one of the most boring Idol nights ever. I really think Fantasia saved the show last night and gave everybody a lesson of what a true Idol should be about.
May 15th, 2008 6:51 PM
Wow as per usual people with little talent, average Americans judging music! As a Pro Producer i put to you is Prince a hack? James Brown. Come on guy's screaming. She has a voice most cannot fathom. Your opinion is your own, she won for a reason and Simon god love him had to be impressed talent wise. Did it work the way that he wanted it to, perhaps not. But that was one hell of a performance!

Fantasia's performance was awesome - lively, energetic and foot stomping. I could care less that I couldn't understand what she was saying - she was FUN to watch and made you want to dance, clap and just get moving. I've not seen or heard something that alive on American Idol all season. Her creativity deserves praise. I'm not familiar with her at all, but she won me over. I've played the video over a few times - just love it. As far as her appearance, it's all about individuality, feeling comfortable with herself, and again, having FUN.
Loved Simon's frozen face - that came in second.

I loved Fantasia. she actually made AI fun to watch, her voice is amazing! You have to get sick of the winey ballods that AI contestants sing all the time, and those cheesey opening numbers before the show starts. Fantasia is sassy, spunky, and it was an awesome performance. Oh and Prince, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, have all died their hair strange colors, I think its boring middle America that cant handle performers that think outside the box!

In Season 3, I hated her, all the screaching and screaming, Jennifer Hudson had tons of talent over her and that shows by her history thus far. So what, Fantasia goes to Broadway, big stinking deal, she hardly makes any records, any time I hear her, I turn her off. She jumps around like an animal. Her performance last night was deplorable, psychotic, she looked awful, like some sort of freak, all the jumping around was some sort of contemporary African jumping dance had no place for American Idol. I guess its her roots coming through. I am not being racist, as I am not, but I have seen many National Geographic shows in Africa in my life and have seen that sort of dancing in different tribes throughout the country. That is what it looked like to me. She does not have any beauty or meaning with her songs, she is not a very attractive person to look at. She's a has-been. I agree with someone who posted that she has no PR person. If she did, perhaps someone could make something out of her but she's gone off her rocker and is soon gonna lose her contract like Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard. You have to make music that people are gonna like and listen to and dance to, that last night was not music, it was garbage. She should hook up with Jason Castro, they would make a good pair because neither of them are talented or sing. Nuff said. And again, look at Simon's FRIGHTENED look at her perfomance like he said in his mind, "What the hell was I thinking?!!!". I will end on that note.

MY TWO CENTS???---I can't stand it when people like Kris make a statement like that and quickly turn around and say
"I'm not racist". BS!!! How can you say "that sort of dancing" has no place on American Idol, say its her roots coming though and many other passive agressive, negative connotations about African culture and try to clean it up really fast with "I'm not a racist"??? You obviously have no appreciation for African cultures (I emphasize cultures because in case you didn't know, there is more than one and being that there is more than one--they are actually distinct from each other.)Most of the beats in music are heaviliy influenced by African cultures. In fact, many dance moves past and present are influenced by African cultures---even the pogo stick you may or may not have tried yourself at one point. Do not be so condescending, snide and outright ridiculous as to say you are not racist, but show such absolute contempt and venom for African culture (as you put it). I would have had more respect for you had you not been such a freaking coward---there are so many of you walikng around with this attitude and you seriously think you aren't racist--no, you just won't call certain people certain names to their face. It hurts that you find it difficult to see the beauty in what she was doing---maybe becasue you too believe--like so many people that white is right. You can point to JLo, Halle Berry, Beyonce and any non-white celebrities that you think are attractive and that what they do is attractive---they ironically have changed something about themselves to look more appealing to people like YOU, who are unfortunately misguided by the unrealistic, small-minded Euro standard of beauty and culture. It is sad---I respect your opinion and your right to express it, but I must say--it would be so much more intelligent and courageous of you to open your mind beyond your limits. You are missing a lot of things and a lot of about life. Check yourself Kris!

You know, it has taken me a couple of days to try and comprehend exactly what appeared on the stage in Fantasia's time slot. Oh my god..she was unbelievably nasty!! Whomever put her in that outfit and made her look like WoodyWoodpecker, should immediately be made to stand in front of a fireing squad. Then to see her trying to channel Tina Turner and James Brown, screeching and screaming all over the stage, trying for sexy sneers, was just too funny. Frankly, I was sure God was playing a colossal joke on the entire AI show!

To Mimi,
I am NOT racist and that is a fact. I lived in New Orleans for 2 years, I worked with African Americans, my church had black people in it, I had and still have African American friends, I had neighbors that are African American. So for you to get on your freaking soap box and chastise me and say I am being narrow minded is ridiculous. I am actually a missionary's wife, we have lived all over the world and a very familiar with different cultures. We were missionaries to the Polynesians, specifically in Tahiti and the French Polynesian chain, where dancing is their heritage, it is who they are, and now we are in Hawaii, same thing dancing is their nature and who they are and how they express themselves. So much like Africa, by the way, I have friends who are missionaries to several different areas of Africa with different tribal dances and I have seen them, so I have no ill will to the dances. My point was that is Fantasia's roots as well, I just don't think and you can check these message boards and they are agree that the performance was something that has no place on the stage, it was unintelligible, you can't understand a word she is saying and trying to dance that was not pretty to watch, it was ugly and animalistic, look at Simon's face for crying out loud, it said it all, it was like, WTH? It was nasty, this is not like what other songs that Fantasia did in season 3 that I actually enjoyed like "Summertime" and such, but I saw another message board and said "you can take the girl out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the girl". That to me is a racist remark, I don't think that should have been said, that is far worse than what I said and I am not a coward and no hiding behind anything. I call it like I see it. I see the performance as something that you might see on the show "So you think you can dance", that is where you see it but not on American Idol. I think as one other post had said, she is on drugs during her performance, that person who made that comment said he is experienced in it because of his work and knows when a performer looks like when high on drugs. I am not sure how true that is, but she was rumored to be having a substance abuse issue and I don't think that is not far from the truth. It's too bad because she said in Season 3 that she got over drugs but now she has the money and can do the drugs now. Sad, like Britney Spears, you can lose it all, like she did. So, don't tell me I don't have an open mind, Mimi, I do and I have seen a lot in my years and I am very happy in my skin and I stand by my opinion. Sorry if you don't have the balls to go ahead and admit that I am bang on about her performance and if my opinion bit you in the butt, oh, I am sorry. That is life, freedom of speech and opinion, you don't like it, don't read it. Now I ask you, open your mind and see if what I said is so bad after explaining a bit further. No one else complained.

I wonder who in the world is responsible for voting this Aborigine into the American Idol winner's circle!!! She is nothing more than a screaming, yelling, hollering clown. Really!!! Give me a freaking break. I've got a Dalmatian that can make more entertaining noises than this joker! Good heavens!!!Get real, people - we need a recount. We need to impeach her so that she is not elgible in the future to get back on any more idol shows. Please, America - do the right thing. Somebody do something! Impeach her, now!!! If there's no such "impeachment rule", then make up one. We impeached Billy Boy Clinton for not keeping his pants zipped. Let's impeach Fantaniac for not keeping her lip zipped!!!

Fantasia is a very talented woman, but her performance on AI this week was an embarrassment. Fantasia sounded like a banshee on quaaludes. I thought Simon was going to vomit into Paula's Wonderbra.
May 17th, 2008 5:23 PM
It is unfathomable to believe she actually won AI. That "performance", if you call it that, was riduculous, and looked like an Idol audition gone bad. I couldn't wait for it to end. Pathetic.
May 19th, 2008 3:36 PM
She seemed HIGH AS A KITE! I hope she doesn't go down the Whitney Road to success (or lack thereof)!
May 21st, 2008 8:42 AM
I have always been a Fantasia fan. But that was enough to scare me out of buying any of her music. I mean what the hell was that! I couldn't understand a word she said. And the dancing was horrible! It was like she was trying to be Tina Turner and James Brown all into one, without the ability to dance. I was so embarassed for her, because apparently she doesn't have the sense to be.
May 24th, 2008 3:50 PM
I find it to be kinda funny how some people go from bitchen about how her song and dance went to disrespecting african cultures
And how they dance all im sayen is to who brought up the african dance who said they were not racist and had black friends if you were at a party & some of your black friends were there if they started dancing some african dance would tell them how they looked like a animal on drugs jumping around? Im just sayen you dont even know this
Girl and you implying she is on drugs

The performance was GREAT!!! It was very energetic..... did you see the audience response? They loved it!! There was no booing... only Simon was at a loss for words.... and for that I think he deserves a boo... Keep it up Fantasia, that was truly entertaining.
June 6th, 2008 12:23 AM
i think the ppl who are hating on her performance are just hating on her creativity she has always had a diff. sound and look nothing has changed we need new ppl with new styles and sounds because im tired of all the singers who sound like the next so with that being said stop hating so much you opinion was over ruled long ago when she won her title
June 7th, 2008 7:35 PM
Fantasia was amazing and dynamic and from that one performance Ill always be a fan of hers whether I appreciate her songs or not. Kris - a missionary's wife? You come across as completely judgmental (what is it you guys actually learn and teach from your bibles?) and also out of touch with popular culture. Im not into drugs, but I have a sense of humour, love dancing and found Fantasia's performance a welcome change on an overwise boring show.
June 24th, 2008 3:25 AM
Wow! Fantasia welcome to fame. I hope that your life so far has taught you to be yourself and to also know that God has blessed you with a gift, so enjoy the fruits of your labor. One thing is for sure, everyone will appreciate things from their own worldview. The good news is that in show biz there is a little something out there for everybody and believe me the joy you bring to millions of fans is priceless. Keep up the Good work!!!!!!!!!!
