America can never be accused of having good taste in music after last night. Don't care now if I even want to watch the rest of the season; it should have come down to Johns and Cook. Makes you wonder if they're skewing the votes in favor of the teenybopper favorites.
April 11th, 2008 8:45 AM
I definately don't think that Michael Johns was the BEST performer in this bunch, but I don't think he deserved to go this week either. I would have given him somewhere in the top 5.
April 11th, 2008 8:46 AM
Ohh, and to all of you who thought he would win... you're stupid. Archulta is going to win because he appeals to the most viewers, wether or not he's the best artist is moot. The best Johns could have ever gotten was 2nd.
April 11th, 2008 8:57 AM
Michael Johns was my absolute favorite. I hope someone picks him up as a solo artist and he comes out with an album soon. I can't wait to hear more of him. I didn't vote...I assumed he'd make it to the end. Perhaps that's what a lot of his fans did. This is a teeny bopper contest anyway. MJ YOU ROCK! As last night's elimination proved...AI is a popularity contest based on other factors outside of pure talent.
April 11th, 2008 9:32 AM
Last nite was like watching Chris Daughtry all over again. Michael should definitely have made it to the end. He was my favorite. When he sang Bohemian Rhapsody it gave me the chills, sounded almost exactly like Freddie. They say everything happens for a reason--I think he'll do good for himself. Look at Daughtry, he said losing on Idol was a good thing because he can do his own thing. Good luck to Michael.

HUGE, HUGE mistake regarding Michael Johns' departure from AI. However, with his talent I expect to see great things from him. AI is becoming a "let's vote for the cutest" instead of voting for the most talented. Being a member of the 50 and over club, I listen to the voices and the music...Michael, you shouldn't have any problems getting a record deal..I certainly will purchase your first album...oops.....cd. Keep smilin' dude...you've got what it takes and then some!!!!

this was long overdue...
my opinion about Micheal Johns is that he certainly has the performance chops, but not as a singer. he hands down had the worst voice in the competition. his pitch was always shakey and he opted to yell the high notes instead of actually hit them. i think the reason the judges have been so impressed with him is that the live audience recieves a different energy than those of us watching at home. in the heat of a live show, you are more willing to forgive mistakes. a good example is Switchfoot. Jon Foreman is an incredible performer, but SF's tv appearances have clearly shown that, at least live, he has some troubl with higher notes. however, in the energy of SF show, it's easy to look past. this is why Johns was voted off. he needs alot of vocal training before he can really hold his own as a performer.
that being said, this is WHY David Cook WILL win. he can do both, perform well and create energy. he is hands down the most confident, capable, and marketable of all of the remaining contestants. Archuleta needs to mature as a showman. Brooke is in serious need of a image overhaul because she is in limbo as far as her persona is concerned. Kristy Lee will only stay a couple more weeks because her cuteness and 'red-state vote' will only carry her so far, because she is not a good singer. Syesha is un-original. Castro and Carly needs to improve their vocal chops. they should just give it to David Cook and spare us this whole charade.
April 11th, 2008 10:06 AM
Michael Johns should not have been eliminated last night. There isn't one person I spoke to prior to the show who thought that Syesha was going to stay, and neither did I. Michael was one of the best singers they have ever had along with Carly. Wow, very disappointed.
April 11th, 2008 10:17 AM
Well, America is getting what it deserves, whether it is president election or American Idol...Texas/Utah/Mid-West country/cowboys/people who do not know where is Canada voters rule the country and get what they want...
How come that awfull country girl is still in the competition...well for same reason.
Now the best most charismatic singer is gone but hey it is same with everything in America... Nice job cowboys...!
April 11th, 2008 10:21 AM
AI ceased being a talent contest last night. The thought of having one bad night be the reason to get voted off is ludicrous. Kristy Lee is a joke, Syesha is a joke, David A. is at best an opening act for Barry Manilow or Clay Aiken. David C., Jason, Carly, Brooke, and Michael are true talents. But it doesn't matter. Howard Sterns cohorts used the ridiculous voting system to keep Sanjaya on last year and until it's changed, talent will lose out to target-market based popularity.
April 11th, 2008 10:30 AM
I think the judges, save Simon, were genuinely shocked. Simon takes AI for what it is for him; winning the lottery.
April 11th, 2008 11:07 AM
Easily one of the most entertaining artists on the show. My family was incredibly shocked...and Seacrest's move was hopefully just a slip up of thinking fast on live TV.
I am not sure how Jason lives on and Johns goes home.
Looking forward to more music from Johns post Idol!
April 11th, 2008 11:35 AM
Michael Johns should not being eliminated! He's really definitely one of the best singer in the competition and I just can't believe that he was out, especially before that idiot, freak Jason Castro. He can't even sing! I just don't understand what's so good about him! AI is really not a talent competition, it is a popularity contest. I'm just wishing all the best for Michael. I'm sure he'll make a great record, just as big as Carrie Underwood or Chris Daughtry. Michael, you can be the next Daughtry and I know that!
April 11th, 2008 12:13 PM
I'M AN OLD-TIMER WHO STILL FEELS SINATRA WAS HE BEST NATURAL SINGER OF ALL-TIME I'M NOT A FAN OF ROCK .WHEN I SEE A SINGER WITH A GREAT SET OF PIPES AND STAGE PRESENCE GET BUMPED OFF, THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE IDOL VOTING. MICHAEL JOHNS CAN SING "FLY ME TO HE MOON" AND MAKE IT SOUND GREAT. WHEN I HEARD HIM SING, I TOLD EVERY ONE HE SHOULD WIN IT THIS YEAR. I EVEN SAID HE COULD MAKE ME LIKE ROCK MUSIC. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND EVERY WORD WHEN HE'S SINGING, NOT SO WITH MANY OTHER ERICK SINFRS

April 11th, 2008 6:20 PM
The show is getting more and more ridiculous. How people like Jason are getting by just like Sanjaya last year is insane. Jason looks like he's stoned half of the time and I wouldn't doubt it or he's really not very bright. I didn't like at all the way Ryan did the spin with the shock factor and almost made one believe that Johns wasn't going home. I am sorry, I like Ryan but that was tasteless and he owes Johns an apology. Host or no host whatever writers idea that was, he should have refused to handle the elimination in the way he did. It showed little or no class. The voting process needs a big change. Take Dancing with the Stars, so many votes per phone line and that's it.
April 11th, 2008 7:29 PM
Just read all of the comments. I am terrible upset and swore last night I would never watch idol again. Michael Johns was definitely one of the two best and I don't believe the voting was accurate. I notice most people think it is the way teeny boppers vote. Could be but what about playing with the votes to keep certain people in the competition?
April 11th, 2008 7:30 PM
I wasn't angry about Michael being voted off. I was angry about the way it was handled. To that end, I sent the following email to askfox.
To Whom It May Concern;
As an adult viewer of American Idol I am completely horrified by Ryan's behavior last night in the elimination of Michael Johns. Whether it was scripted or not is of no consequence. The fact is that the entire situation was handled so badly that I will no longer be watching the show. To blatantly give Michael false hope that he would be retained because of last years stance on no elimination during Idol Gives Back week was unnecessary and cruel. Perhaps the "powers that be" should take a long look in the mirror. Maybe they'll realize that THEY need to give back and allow Michael to return with a full apology from Ryan and the show. Maybe they'll realize that they need to do the right thing. I am extremely disappointed and thoroughly disgusted that Idol Gives Back week will not be remembered for the generosity of so many, or of the children the money will help. What it WILL be remembered for is the reprehensible way that Michael was treated. Shame on you all.
An ex-Idol viewer

Michael John was my favorite - I feel bad as I couldn't get through when trying to vote, and didn't vote for him when I wanted to.
Besides being a hunk, he's gracious, well-mannered, and I thought he sounded just like the Door's lead singer....amazing. He had star quality and will be missed.
I think Carly has an amazing voice, betterr than any of the other girls, but doesn't have the right "look."
So sad last night. And rude.
April 11th, 2008 10:27 PM
I am disappointed that I will not be able to watch and and listen to Michael---he has genuine talent and I think AI needs to do something about the inequity of the voting process!!! I agree, shame on AI for mishandling the contest!! I wish Michael the best because the best thing to happen to Chris Daughtry was to be eliminated!!! Anyway, where are Taylor Hicks and Ruben Who right now?? I can't wait to hear and buy Michael's CD!!! Ex-AI viewer
April 11th, 2008 11:22 PM
CARL,
SO WRONG, WE'LL SEE WHO HAS AN ALBUM OUT FIRST, THIS WAS A JOKE, WON'T WATCH IDOL ANYMORE, CAN'T STAND THAT SMUG RYAN SEACREST.
April 11th, 2008 11:57 PM
If Fox doesn't bring back Michael I will never watch AI again. He should have never been voted off plus Ryan's cruel way of kicking him off really chapped my butt. He is better off without AI. I will be the first in line to buy MJ's CD's and concert tickets. Keep rockin' Michael.
April 12th, 2008 7:13 AM
Who wants to watch the rest of the show........Michael was awesome. I just can't bare to watch the rest of the show ruled by teeny boppers. I have much more important things to do in my life ....like giving back than to vote 50 times.
The girls are boring. David A sounds the same every week and David Cook is to real and soulful to win with the teeny bops and I'm not going to watch him get sacked. So thats the end of me and AI.......
It hard enough for those young, hardworking singers to maintain what could be such a big dream than to be played with anymore than is necessary. Ryan should be ashamed of himself. Does he feel like big man now. He was better when he wasn't so full of himself
April 12th, 2008 11:54 AM
The operative phrase for AI is "damage control." Ryan Seacrest hit an artery, and AI is bleeding out. Since the show’s producers are so devoted to the “unprecedented” for suspense, shock, and drama, now is the time for the never-before bring-a-poorly (understatement) dismissed –very-talented-Idol-contestant-back. AI, punctuate the American Idol Gives Back campaign by giving back to Michael Johns and millions of fans, the real givers. Have Seacrest do the honors. America has a longer memory than you think. Setting things right would be directly in keeping with the splendid anthem “Shout to the Lord!”
April 15th, 2008 12:36 PM
I said Michael Johns was the best the first night. However, as time went on I felt he needed to do something outstanding to be noticed and/or remembered. As Simon said, like musical wallpaper. Yes he is good, but he needed some personality or enthusiasm, after he sang. While he sang he had it, but it was the after personaility I felt he lacked.
David A. is more than awesome and to me the winner this year. I'd love to see a new face go far. The only thing I don't like is his dad and the angered influence he attempts to exhibit to control his son.
Kristy Lee Cook is really good even though she doesn't seem to have many fans! I am not sure why but maybe lack of experience.
