Blake Lewis: More Than Just a Human Beatbox
Don't get us wrong. We love the beatboxing. But it's not as though Blake Lewis can't carry a tune, as well.
Originally from Bothell, Washington, Blake was passed through to Hollywood at the Seattle America Idol auditions. For someone who started singing at the age of five, it was a long time coming.
When asked who his favorite male pop stars are, Lewis had an interesting answer. Sure, he's a fan of the usual: Sting, Duncan Sheik and Jason Mraz. But he also gave credit to a pair of fellow American Idol contestants:
- Blake named the band Half Past Forever as an influence. That group's lead singer? Chris Sligh.
- He also pointed to M-Pact, the band fronted by Rudy Cardenas.
It's nice to see the hopefuls giving credit to one another, even as they compete to move on. And it's obvious Lewis will be among the front-runners as American Idol continues.
We can't wait.

I have been searching every place I can think of trying to find that song. I promise once I do I will come back and tell you all. I feel in love with it as well. I think it may be called Let me In.....unknown singer. If you guys find it first please come post it here as well......thanks

Ok-first of all, I don't watch AI b/c I think it's tired and I'm not into reality tv. That being said, after hearing a local radio station play Blake's performance of Keane, I'm all over the web now trying to find out about him and AI season 6. This has NEVER happened before but hearing him sing 1-took my breath away and 2- made me have to fan myself. I thought what a beautiful voice. Maybe it was because I heard it on the radio, but I've downloaded the song and now I actually think he sounded better than the original. Does anyone know where I can go to listen to him sing that song again? BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

I'm so glad all of you feel the same way. I never cared about the contestants of American Idol. But when I heard Blake sing that song, something touched my soul and I actually cried. I have it recorded on DISH and have not erased it. My husband thinks I'm weird because I listen to it every day. I heard Randy say he was surprised to hear a Keane song, so I figured out it was called Somewhere Only We know, because he kept singing that line at the end, I found it on line, downloaded the lyrics and sing it all the time. I bought the CD through Amazon used (for only $7.49 or something). It's now my favorite song. The day after I heard him sing it I woke up at 2 a.m. and couldn't get it out of my head. I turned on the TV and watched the recording of it about 5 times and cried again (weird for me. I don't cry over songs). I am sort of loving this kid (not in a romantic way, because after all, I'm married and I love my husband, and also, I'm old enough to be his mother. But he's so adorable and he touched my soul, as I said. I thought he looked kind of weird when he first auditioned with his weird hairdo and his beatboxing. But that song is just so wonderful and he was so sweet while he was singing it. He seems like such a sweet guy, no arrogance, and very humble. His parents in the audience singing the lyrics to that song while he was singing it touched me too. They are so proud. He's definitely my favorite contestant and I'm watching it now just to see what else he sings.

blake is my pick for sure. gotta love the human beatbox - he's a breath of fresh air. i like his style too, esp. the t-shirt he wore when singing the jamiroquai song. it looked like a t shirt with someone playing guitar. pretty cool.
